What is the ScanMe app?
ScanMe QR Scanner & Generator is our app for Android, iPhone, iPad and Mac. It scans QR codes, barcodes and 2D codes such as Data Matrix, even offline, one at a time or in batches, and makes codes in your own colors, shapes and logo. It uses the same account as this website, so your Smart IDs (business card, pet ID, vehicle ID), dynamic QR codes and their scan analytics are there too, with a notification on your phone when someone uses them. The Android app has over 500K downloads on Google Play.
Do I need the app to use ScanMe Online?
No. The website is fully independent: creating, customizing, downloading and scanning all work in your browser without the app, and your account is the same on both. The app is worth installing if you scan often and want scanning that works offline and in batches, more 2D formats, and a notification the moment someone uses your Smart ID.
Can codes created on the website be scanned by the app, and vice versa?
Yes, in both directions. Codes generated by ScanMe Online and by the app are standard QR codes and barcodes, so each scans the other’s output, and so does every other standards-compliant scanner, including built-in phone cameras. There is no lock-in in either direction.
Which code formats can the scanner recognize?
QR codes plus the widely used one-dimensional barcode families: Code 128, EAN-13 and EAN-8, UPC-A and UPC-E, Code 39 and other common retail formats. It decodes them from the camera or from images. Industrial 2D formats beyond QR (such as Data Matrix and PDF417) are supported in the ScanMe app for Android, iPhone, iPad and Mac rather than the web scanner.
