Who makes this

ScanMe Online is made by Androrangers Technologies LLC, a software company in New Jersey. We also build ScanMe – QR Code Scanner for Android. The two are companions rather than copies: the app is built for scanning on the move, including offline, and the site is built for making codes on a bigger screen and downloading them at print resolution.

How the free generator works

The pattern is drawn on your device. When you type into the generator, the encoding and the rendering happen in your browser, and the content never travels to us to be turned into an image. That is the reason there is no account to make, no watermark on what you download, and nothing for us to keep. The trade is that a static code cannot be changed once it is printed, because the destination is inside the pattern rather than on a server. That is what a dynamic code is for, and it is the half of the product that needs an account.

What we charge for

Making and printing codes is free, and stays free. We charge for the part that needs a server: codes whose destination you can change after printing, the scan statistics behind them, and the digital business cards, pet IDs and vehicle IDs that sit behind a permanent tag. That split is the whole business model, and it is why the free generator has no reason to get worse.

What we do not do

• We do not put a watermark on anything you download.
• We do not require an account to generate or scan a code.
• We do not sell account information. What is collected, and what happens to it, is set out in the privacy policy rather than summarized into something vaguer here.
• We do not claim numbers we cannot show you. There are no user counts or testimonials on this site, because we would rather say less and have it be checkable.

The formats follow published standards

A code is only useful if equipment made by somebody else can read it, so the formats here are implementations of published specifications rather than our own inventions. The home page lists the primary documents behind the ones we generate, and the guides explain what they require and where the requirements bite in practice.

How we write things down

Every answer in the FAQ is written once and shown wherever it is relevant, so a page and the FAQ cannot end up disagreeing. The guides are held to a stricter rule: they explain how codes work without mentioning this site at all, because a guide that has to sell something stops being a guide.
